3 Historical places to visit in Lucknow

Lucknow, the capital of Uttarpradesh and the “city of Nawabs” is a place of many tourist attractions. There are many places to visit and many historical places that you can visit. The city flourished with cultural activities during the reign of Awadh. The monuments and natural places attracts lots of tourist in these places. During the British era, they also made some beautiful monuments that are also a great tourist attraction. Well if you are a foodie then this place might have the great foods to offer.

Bara Imambara :

Bara Imambara was built in 1784 by Asaf-ud-Daula, the nawab of Awadh. This is also known as Asafi Imambara, the Imambara was basically built for Azadari for Shiya Muslims. The complex comprises of two main gates, a large mosque, a labyrinth (the Bhul Bhulaiya) and a steep well with running water (known as Shahi Baoli). According to the legends, there was also a mile long tunnel passage that leads to the Gomti River. 

This is the last project that not used any European structure style or irons, there is a tomb of Asaf-ud-Daula in the center of the Imamabara. Well, you can visit this amazing place from sunrise to sunset, entry fee applied. 

Chota Imambara :

The Chota Imambara was built by Muhammad Ali Shah, the third Nawab of Awadh in the year 1838. The Imambara was initially built as a congregation hall for devotees of Shia communities, this Imambara is also known as  Imambara Hussainabad Mubarak. The design of this Imambara is made by Charbagh, Persian and Indo-Islamic structural designs, the lights are brought from Belgium, the monument is famous for the golden dome, gold-edged mirrors, silver turrets are the attraction of this Imambara. There is also a watchtower of seven stories that is outside of the Imambara. After the death of Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah, this watchtower was banned. You can visit this place from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm every day. 

Rumi Darwaza :

If you want to witness the grandeur of the Awadhi style architecture then you should visit the Rumi Darwaza. The Rumi Darwaza was built by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula in the year 1784, also known as the Turkish Gate. The Rumi Darwaza is the gateway for Chota Imambara and Bara Imambara. The gate stands 60 feet tall. The uppermost part of this gate can be accessed by staircase and you can see eight faceted cenotaphs. To light up the gate, there is a big lantern in the upper side of this Gate. You can visit this gate every day and the entry fee is free.
