There are plenty of Adventure bikes in our market today, and these bikes have become very desirable in recent times. A lot of riders aspire to go on long journeys, and the adventure is quite addictive if you have the courage to pursuit it. Most ADV riders love large bikes loaded with kit, but for someone learning, a big bike isn’t the way forward. For those who’d like to start off learning, these two bikes – the Himalayan and Xpulse 200 are perfect options to begin with.
Now what we’re about to delve into is looking for the right off-road bike for beginners. We ride two motorcycles that are not only affordable but offer good performance as well. Both motorcycles are well built and are hugely capable. Hero has launched the BS6 version of the Xpulse 200. This bike can also be used for everyday riding. Then comes the popular Royal Enfield bikes which comes with easy riding dynamics too. These smaller and more accessible ADVs make perfect sense for our roads.
This bike is powered by a 200cc, single-cylinder engine that makes 18bhp and 16.5Nm of torque and comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It also gets a 21-inch front tyre and 190mm of suspension travel and has 220mm of ground clearance. It features a tall front fender and an enduro-styled seat. The chassis is compact and rigid but the bike weighs only 154kgs, making it easy to ride. The bike loves being chucked about and is easy to pick up if dropped. The
Hero bikes features ABS, and this gives you a sense of confidence at high speeds. The power adequate and opening the throttle results in good power delivery. You can take it off the beaten path and it takes it all in its stride.
The Himalayan has a lot of fans all over the country and from around the world too. It’s not particularly small but is very comfortable and easy to ride. The seat is accommodating, thanks to the wide handlebar and low-set seat. The Himalayan is powered by a 411cc, single-cylinder engine that makes 24bhp and 32Nm of torque – ample power for the road and highway. It is shod with a 21-inch front tyre and features switchable dual-channel ABS, metal sump guard and luggage mounting tracks. It has 200mm of suspension travel at the front, making it rather practical. Ground clearance is great at 200mm. This is a bike that can withstand any amount of off-road terrain, and thanks to its slim frame, you tend to get a good grip of the tank. The suspension absorbs all manner of terrain, and the bike feels solid. The seat suits long journeys and the suspension and chassis can deal with any terrain and the engine is very reliable.
Opinion
Both motorcycles are easy to maintain, compact and affordable and come across as great, usable motorcycles. These are great urban ADVs for those enthusiastic to learn how to off-road while learning the basics. You cannot look further than these two bikes if adventure riding is your style.
